    1. They might be keeping them both open to try and compete with Trader Joe's and Wegmans- strength in numbers, after all. They're trying to outflank them.

  2. Let me be the first to say that the President of Acme Markets was looking at the unsold Patterson NY store yesterday. The store is seven miles north of the Brewster location and is about 25000 sq ft larger than the Brewster site. I think that Acme will acquire this store in either the last round of auctions or when the store goes dark. They're currently in closing mode.

  3. I wouldn't be surprised if Acme picks up quite a few stores once they close. Some of the unsold locations surprise me because they should be making money (Boonton comes to mind, as it's on the Montville border and that town doesn't have a single grocery store unless you count the Lincoln Park ShopRite on the other side). A&P either wanted too much for them or there must be something wrong like unfavorable leases and whatnot.

  4. I have to say these A&Ps are much better looking than the nasty ones we had in Chicago growing up. When they took over National they remodeled an absolutely beautiful store into a gawdawful mix of bright green, red, and orange.

  5. My friend is a former A&P mgr., now Acme mgr., and he reported flat sales for this year for Acme vs. last year A&P. Acme has not advertised or done anything to let folks know that they are HERE!!! I told him they need to advertise on radio, and TV!!! He told me they will and that (these are his words not mine that HOT HOT prices are coming!! Good luck ACME, the stores are beautifully clean and well stocked, BUT prices need to be lowered and or sales much be better to draw in new folks other that the die hard A&P customers. I do hope that ACME succeeds though.

    1. I spoke with a manager at the Woodcliff Lake store awhile back and he said that they were going to do a major grand opening soon. Acme has a great bakery and I am a big fan of their cookies and muffins. I really hope they succeed in Bergen County
