Nanticoke – West Main Street

Images above courtesy of Wyoming Valley Blog

  1. This one closed in 1992 ... the same day that the store in Avoca was also closed. I lived just up the street from this store. It was just a few years later, in 1995, that Acme sold 45 stores in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania to the Penn Traffic Company (Insalaco's and BiLo).

  2. Another post script ... I was in this building when it was DelBalso Ford ... and it still had the deconstructed Acme logo on the back of the sign ... Probably still does, since the DelBalso Ford sign is still there.

  3. Postscript #2 ... I used to walk to this Acme with my Grandmother every Tuesday to help her carry her grocery bags back home ... My mother would never shop at Acme (there was also an IGA in Nanticoke, where she would shop) ...
