Recently went to the newly renovated Newtown store last weekend. My god! The floors, decor, and overall layout is amazing! They added a wood floor in the produce/bakery section-- which really made the location feel upscale. Checkouts were updated with new lights, but (surprisingly) self-checkouts still remain!
Thanks for the news! I was wondering if they got around to doing to inside. I'm surprised they didn't hold a grand reopening considering how much work has been done to the store since A&P shut down.
A lot of people one here are saying how Acme desperately has to bring back the self checkouts....well a *little birdie* at 19th and Oregon told me that's exactly whats happening....soon.
Well self checkouts are definitely coming to Front and Snyder! (You get my email?)
Newtown was mentioned to have kept the SCOT's as well upthread.
What I was specifically told was they want to put the SCOTS near the customer service desk, meaning they would have to take out some registers. Previously, the SCOTS were by the exit door on the other side of the front end.
I should add that the co-worker who told me this was not looking forward to it because of all the theft that will likely occur (we were taking about a big theft that just occurred and they brought it up)
I would hope at least, if/when they install this stuff at 19th and Oregon it would be as part of a full scale remodel. This store still had the Albertsons Marketplace decor and the place has really gotten rundown in the past few years (signs crooked, practically every reefer/frozen case leaking water upon the floor) etc....
More BAD NEWS for Acme Markets in Northern Westchester and Putnam Counties in NY! ShopRite which currently operates a high volume store in Cortlandt NY just across from the former A&P now ACME in the Cortlandt Town Center is building a brand new 65,000 sq. ft store just up the road from their current location and in Mahopac NY, where the current ACME competes with a high volume Stop&Shop just across the Westchester/Putnam line in Somers NY, Stop&Shop has announced they will build their first store in Putnam County five miles from their Somers NY location. This is not a replacement store for S&S, but will essentially sandwich the Mahopac ACME between two Stop&Shop locations. The new ShopRite will not only affect the Cortlandt Manor ACME but the Shrub Oak ACME as well.
2 years since A&P filed for bankruptcy. Some company/person must have bought the A&P name, if you go on their corporate website "aptea.com", you'll see that the logo has been photoshopped out of their store image.

Weis is moving into the former A&P in Randolph off Route 10. Store is expected to be open in early 2018.

DeleteI know it's a little late to say this but they did a big remodel to ortley beach, like a less deluxe, but still impressive version of Quality Built.

I'll believe it when I see it. And I usually don't post these "little birdie told me" types of comments since the birdies are wrong 99.9% of the time.
