Quality Built in Centreville!

Quality Built has replaced one of the most bizarre décor packages we've ever seen in an Acme. The remodel also appears to have improved the layout which was a little awkward.

The service departments have now been enclosed. Previously they were completely exposed to the rest of the store. You can see this in the "before" photos of the Deli and Bakery below.

An interesting comment left on the original Centreville post:
"There are gas stations at two other locations,Smyrne,Del and in Philly at Red Lion and Bustleton. As for the decor, it was their crate theme for the farm area location. All the equipment for this store came from the remodeled/closed store in Millsboro, Del."

The beautiful new bread display made it into this store! Not every remodeled store gets this new feature, unfortunately. Now if only if Acme would carry better bread! As beautiful as this display is, Acme has the worst selection of fresh baked breads of any major chain out there.

Interesting new cake display which we haven't seen on the blog before.

This store used to have a lot of strange alcoves which look to have been removed during the remodel. You can have a look at more of the "before" photos in the original post by clicking here.

Strange to see such old-school lighting in a store that opened in the early 2000's.

Topping out at 12 aisles. Certainly not as large as many of the new stores Acme built in the early 2000's.

Premium Fresh & Healthy signage mixed in with the Crate and Stripes décor.

I believe this is the first time we're seeing this light blue wall color. Not my favorite. Also strange the the "Freshest Food Guaranteed" sign is in the Health and Beauty department. No Pharmacy at this location.

Customer Service bumped out of its alcove to make room for Starbucks.

Of course the store used to have self-checkouts.

Snazzy Starbucks now open!

  1. Looking good. Despite a few missteps in the past few years, they seem to know that "hey...if we don't update the stores, we will loose customers"

Overall I think Acme is on the up and up

  2. I'm still a little confused by the old decor's history. Was it an Albertsons look, or like an alternate American Stores décor?

    1. I'm pretty sure it was an Albertsons look. This store opened in the 2000's, so it's past the American Stores era, plus it has an "ACME Express" gas station. I'll see if I can hook you up with some more photos of the decor.

  3. Considering they were having union issues in the beginning, it's possible they expected this store to have a short life if it even opened at all and thus they wanted to put minimal investment possible into it.

That said, considering it's obviously able to carry itself, why did they remodel so many stores with the PF&H and Jewel decor before touching this one?

    1. The issues we're that the contract was up, the company had just closed Milford, Saulisbury, Cambridge and Milsboro.Milsboro was a replacement store that lasted less then a year. The company asked for and received a sweetheart no cost contract, that allowed the company to build replacement stores and do updates. While thus went on the replacement store for the Tiny give aisle Centreville store was stopped as an empty shell. The company let it be known that if the contract would be ratified they would complete this store, build replacements in Middletown and Smyrna, they would upgrade Chestertown and Stevensville. They then took the equipment, and the decor from the closed Milsboro store and quickly opened Centreville. They upgraded Chestertown, Stevensville, Haverdegrace, Falston, a d Elkton. Some did close afterwards and they did a massive rebuild in Chestertown. The company kept their word and did eventually a better contract the last go around.Uf that contract didn't happen I am not sure if any stores outside of Middletown and Smyrna would still be around.

  4. Easy to explain, the store is located in a small rural town, that because if limitations in it's sewage treatment system can't grow much larger. They only have a Foodlion for competition , the next closest stores are twenty minutes away, the Acme in Chestertown or the Safeway on Kent Island. So,why spend the money, untill you had to?
