This week's circular has a nod to Acme 123rd Birthday, paired up with Dietz and Watson's 75th. Pictures of two classic Acmes are included! The store on the left is in Johsntown, Pennsylvania while the store on the right is in Red Bank, New Jersey. Johnstown has not been featured on the blog. Red Bank, however, has been featured along with the very same photo seen in this week's circular...

Some interesting history left by Bill Haines in the comments section for the original Red Bank post…
I love the picture of the Red Bank store, taken sometime around 1948. This quaint store survived until 1957, which is hard to believe! The sign had evolved from the 1937 original, with the cursive signature and "Super" in the blue circle, but it was still just a sign attached to the building, like the old American Stores Co. sign. In fact, I know that some of the larger Asco service stores became self service Acme's, and this could have been one of them. By 1947, new stores had the ivory metal front, so this is really an oldie!

I don't have a classic photo of Johnstown so I'm including some aerial images. The store in unrecognizable today...
Opened in 1953. Looks as though an addition to the right side was added at some point. Impossible to know for sure. There is only one historic aerial image from 1962 which shows the building as the same size it is today.
