  1. Weis Markets reopened in the former A&P in Flanders this past week. Here's a picture (they did a nice job converting the exterior): http://www.flickr.com/photos/31660989@N05/12824822233/

    1. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it! Thanks for sharing the news.

    2. In the caption, it mentions that Weis had a store across the road that they closed and it is now a ShopRite.

If I remember correctly reading this somewhere, the issue was that the original store was difficult to access due to the road configuration, which is (at least one reason) why it didn't do well - people weren't willing to work to access it as an unknown brand (Weis)but have been more willing to do so as a better known in NJ store (ShopRite).

Hopefully this store has better access and will allow Weis to do well there.

    3. OK - Found it - This was posted on weisproject.com, which is unfortunately no longer in existance - but luckily this page is still on the Web Archive:

      https://web.archive.org/web/20070808210724/http://www.weisproject.com/past_detail.php?num=8

There are a number of other interesting pages from that site as well - kind of a Weis version of this site, in a way :)

    4. Thanks for the link! I will include in the Flanders post which is getting it's final touches now. Actually… Acme Style is a version of the Weis Project. That site served as the main inspiration for this blog.

  2. Was there a Supermarket that was where The Now Closed Sav-A-lot, Tokyo Supreme Hibachi and Buffet(old Country buffet), and a former dollar store are now, and a Kmart in Bensalem that was a JM Fields(locations I mentioned are all in Bensalem PA.) (as for the Dollar store, It relocated next to the former Drug Emporium space, and near the Giant)

    1. Yes, a Food Fair/Pantry Pride. It opened around 1964 and would have closed no later than 1979 or 1980 (if not earlier).

  3. What about the 33M Model Category. There's a colonial cottage, pitched roof but not 33m, hmmm.

  4. The other day, I was filling out a form on the internet, and it asked me to select my town, and I had to scroll through a list of every town in Pennsylvania, one in particular caught my eye- ACME, PA. I wonder if this bears any connection to the store...

  5. It looks like Cerberus is buying Safeway.

I wonder if this means anything for Acme or if they will be operated independently?

    1. Thanks for the news! Acme is run by Alberstsons and I'm sure it will continue to be. I would guess Cerberus will have Safeway run itself.

    2. The purchase has been made. It cost them 9 billion

    3. Well my guess was wrong. Looks like Albertsons and Safeway will become one company… with 17 different banners!!
