News Break:

Fallston Acme to become
Harvest Fare Supermarket

BelAirPatch.com has reported that the former Acme in Fallston Maryland will reopen it's doors on March 16 as a Harvest Fare Supermarket, an independently run market which is supplied by SuperValu. The store will be Harvest Fare's second market in Maryland. The first being located at 2905 Hamilton Avenue in Baltimore. To read more about the new store setting up shop in the old Acme, please check out the interesting article over at BelAirPatch.com which provides all of the details.

With SuperValue supplying the new store, Acme shoppers will find many of the store brands at Harvest Fare to be identical to the ones Acme carried. Among them... "Homelife" cleaning and paper products, "Super Chill" beverages, "Culinary Circle" gourmet foods, and the "Richfood" brand which is identical to Acme brand products. (The Acme logo switched out in the blue frame box from the Richfood logo).

  1. The current Richfood logo was actually "inherited" from Albertsons. Richfood has used at least two other logos.

  2. i really don't know what to make of this. like i see negatives and positive aspects. i will not state my negative stances on it, just the only positive is hopefully they re-hire the acme employees who i believe rightfully deserve it. i just personally would rather see ACME!!! as the logo and individually owned. guess we'll see what happens.

  3. Ah yes, Jersey City again. Looks to be a treand with SuperValu. (for many years) Close company run store that have decent wages, benefits, and vacation, get rid of the lease and TADA!!!! More profits at the employees expense.
Good Luck to all Acme employee's that have been displaced.

  4. wonder why it could not have just stayed ACME! i don't and refuse to shop any of supervalus closed ACMES that are being converted into save-a-lots or other stores. i unfortunately will never even present myself in former acme shopping centers, the worst is cinnaminson. they still have all the lights and music on. you can see into the store from the foyer since the pizza shop is in the foyer! they are taking a huge hit in business now i hear.

  5. The reason why it couldn't just stay an ACME is because SuperValu wants the unions OUT. Change the banner/loose the union. As simple as that.

  6. how could a former acme employee go to a pizza shop (and mind you a majority of us are in distance) in our closed down stores? how would you feel going into your closed down job...but one store remains open in a foyer and you can see blatantly the inside of the now rotting cinnaminson store or ANY of them. the memories are haunting enough.

  7. We personally hated our local Acme in Fallston, Md. The service was the pits, from employees too lazy to help a customer find what they were looking for right down to actual thievery in the deli. We would order the sale item and they would give us a pack of meat labeled with the highest priced brand and refused to take it back. They did that several times and we would just walk out leaving it on the counter as we were not paying for something we did not order. The produce section always had rotting fruits and veggies and lots of bugs crawling and flying around. Several times we ended up with spoiled meats or milk so we just stopped buying anything perishable there. Talking to the managers was a joke. The only time I ever got anything other than attitude from them was when I finally complained to corporate and then they gave me a plant from their floral shop and a gift card to their store which I tried to give back as I wasn't coming back to that store again. They refused to take either the plant or the gift card back so I gave the plant to a friend and sold the gift card to recoup some of the money we had lost in dealing with that store. The prices were higher than other stores in neighboring areas so we just stopped shopping there all together. I know this isn't all Acme stores but it was the only one in our area and even though it was right around the corner from our house we chose to drive into Bel Air for better service, better food quality, cleaner store and lower prices. I was all excited to give the new Harvest Fare store a chance til I came here and read the comments. Now I'm not so sure but I will still keep an open mind and give the new store a chance. We will need someone to keep the new Walmart in line when it comes to raising prices. ;-)

  8. So anyone know when this Harvest Fare will open in Fallston, MD? The article said March 23 but I haven't heard anything about it being open yet and when I was over there a few days ago it didn't look open.
