Since we've been in a Super Fresh state of mind for the past week, I figured it was about time I busted these photos out of the vault and put them up on the blog! Ben photographed the store in May 2011 as the store was in its final weeks. It closed the following month. The building has since been significantly renovated with Redner's taking over the space.

we had one of these future stores in Harrisburg PA on the Carlisle pike. They looked so massive from the outside but I dislike the fact there is no signage on the outside. The former superstore is still a Karns supermarket today. The outside needed to be more appealing. It was a nice effort to reinvent the outside, but was never successful.
ReplyDeleteInteresting store, probably the least dated-looking store (at least on the inside) that I've seen with this decor package. I also like that there are store promos and such on the back sides of the aisle markers, considering other stores would just have them blank which looked ugly.
ReplyDeleteStill, this store would have really shined with a Fresh remodel, especially the second version. I guess A&P and Pathmark (even before the merger) didn't give their Delaware stores much love.
Awesome old decor. On the back of the aisle markers were "Superfresh" logos and other messages. When America's Choice was released a few years later, that is what would be printed on the back of those aisle markers.

It amazed me that Redners stripped this store to its bare four walls. Every thing in it is brand new.
ReplyDeleteBut knowing Redner's and their (lack of) decor', it probably looks even more dated now than these SuperFresh pics look. i swear they remodeled my local Redner's (Doylestown, PA which is closing on Saturday as the landlord wanted them out for hopefully something a little better) remodeled in the late 2000's and they made the store look even more dated (and it only opened in 1995).
DeleteI HAVE BEEN IN IT AND ITS A GREAT BIG BOX,SET UP LIKE ALL REDNERS ARE. THE STORE DOES LESS THEN THE SUPER FRESH DID. WHICH IS STRANGE AS ITS EXTREMLY CLOSE TO THE MARYLAND LINE WHERE THE CLOSEST STORE IS IN GREENSBORO. THE CLISEST STORES IN DELAWARE ARE LOCATED IN CAMDEN WYOMING A D ALONG 13 IN DOVER.
DeleteThis was most definitely the SAV-A-CENTER DECOR PKG. Every A&P Sav-a-center I have ever been in has had this pkg. Again the Brewster A&P old store had this pkg.
