Bala Cynwyd: pronounced Bay-lah Kin-wid I'm not too far from there, and I didn't know how to pronounce it until I saw this. I guess most people just guess how to say this. What I hear most often is "Ball-ah Kwy-nid"
Also, it seems a lot of people tend to overreact whenever they hear "winter storm". It was about 4 inches of snow at the most.
When there's a winter storm, the stations inevitably go to Bala Cynwyd. And it is ALWAYS Bala Cynwyd. The reason? Bala is located on City Line, just a few miles or so down from the two biggest TV stations in the city.
Also, there is footage online of the buildup to the historic Blizzard of 1996. Yes, they went to Bala, and you can see it clearly rockin' the Checkerboard Arch look!
Aah - at least now we have a pronunciation for that town (for those of us not in that area, anyway).
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing when I was watching it!!
