FORMER PAULSBORO ACME
TO BE SAVED!
Plans to tear down the former pitched-roof Acme have been officially scrapped! Save A Lot will be moving in to the space and making very little changes to the exterior. An article on

Another Acme to turn into a Save-A-Lot, since Save-A-Lot is the national supermarket division of SuperValu, the former owner of Albertsons and Acme.
ReplyDeleteTrue but Acme closed this location over a decade before SuperValu bought the company.
DeleteSo if this was closed over a decade before SuperValu bought Albertsons, that also means it was closed even before Albertsons bought American Stores. So this was long abandoned.

Great news, however this was probably the last thing I would expect... That store is in really tough shape, but fixing it up is definitely worth it!
ReplyDeleteExcellent news! Reminds me of the Acme we had in Old Bridge, NJ on Route 9 and Throckmorton Lane 1962 to 1982. It was vacant for years after 1982 then became a gym for ladies and the exterior remained largely unchanged. Then about 2007 it became a nursery school and underwent te dreaded stucco renovation. I miss the old Acme.
ReplyDeletebefore this Acme was built the lot right behind it interestingly was a harness horse training track complete with horse barns AND Sunday afternoon races during the warmer months, i know because at about age 10, 1958, i cleaned put the horse barn. My wage, a cigarette, lol. Since i was so young i don't remember much about it so if anyone has anymore info on it i'd love to hear it
