Programming Update:

Store posts will resume this Friday. For the remainder of the year, I will be focusing on the A&P and Pathmark converted stores. These stores are all anybody's talking about! Visitor counts on the blog are running nearly 4 times their usual daily average despite the fact that there hasn't been any Acme store posts lately. Additionally, it will also be easier for me to cover some of these stores as there is a ton opening very close to where I live. (woo-hoo!) The Acmes still waiting the Acme Style treatment are a good two hour or more drive away.

The conversion posts will be done with a limited amount of pictures and information. The main goal will be to give a preview of the store rather than exhaustive coverage of an original Acme location. This will give me the opportunity to generate more frequent posts with the limited amount of time I currently have to work on the blog. I won't be delving into the history of each A&P and Pathmark. The posts will be picking up the story just as Acme steps in. Those of you who do have information on these stores will be welcome to share your knowledge in the comments section of each post.

Posts of current and former Acmes will resume early next year.

Please note: Store counts may not be 100% accurate. Acme Style will do its best to track the openings but if Acme Markets does not update their blog in a timely manner, it will be extremely difficult to maintain an exact store count until all converted stores reopen.

Two MORE Acmes open TOMORROW!

Edgewater and West New York are both opening at 7:00 on Friday, October 9! I just happened to pass by this evening and saw that the exterior signage was changed on both stores. A flurry of activity inside as the stores are getting ready to be better. They're handing out these flyers at the door. The Edgewater store is turning people away in droves as that location is normally pretty busy.

The signs are both dark red but showing up a little washed out in these photos. A lot of "wet paint" signs outside. AND... they have the two-tiered shopping carts for smaller orders! Love those things.

Location: 55 Riverwalk Pl, West New York, NJ

The Acme sign looking great on the West New York store! None of the signs here were lit. The aisles markers are getting stickers that say "ACME ♥ Local" placed over the A&P logo. (Stuck the heart in there the best I could)

West New York was closed for 3 days beginning on the 5th. Could the date be any smaller? Apparently these are the only two stores in this area being converted at this time. The Weehawken Pathmark is still open but the store has been cleared out of all displays and bags are only available on the few registers that are open.

As you have noticed, regular posting has yet to return to Acme Style since summer break. I'm hoping to have things back up an running in the next couple of weeks. When I have set date for posting to resume, I'll announce the date here on this post. 

Former Acme – Shippensburg, Pennsylvania

 Former Acme Pick of the Day!

Location: 115 North Fayette Street, Shippensburg PA

Opening day was January 16, 1963. Closing date unknown. These pitched-roof stores always look smaller after the glass fronts are replaced with solid materials. Red cinderblock was put in where the windows used to be. Looks like there was just a single delivery door for produce. The angled awning most certainly added when the original one was removed.




This was a small version of the pitched-roof stores. You can see the break room and bathrooms were on the first floor instead of up on a mezzanine.


Parking lot sign pole remains with no sign whatsoever.


This place had the typical gigantic parking lot which you can see better in the aerial photo below...
