Store Count...


The following Acme locations have opened:

A&P Fresh at 5 Ortely Plaza, Seaside Heights/Ortely Beach, NJ
A&P Fresh at 125 18th Street, Jersey City, NJ
A&P Fresh at 507 Prospect Street,  Little Silver, NJ
Pathmark at 321 Route 440, Jersey City, NJ

November 3rd marks the triumphant return of Acme Markets to Jersey City and Ortely Beach!

    I'm going to the new Ortley Beach location right now. This weekend I'll get pics in the daylight of it, and I'll let you know how it turned out. Acme is triumphant!

      Wow, the pictures are great! I haven't been to this store and I didn't expect it to look like that inside, from the outside, it looks like it would've been more warehouse-like, like a Shoprite.

      I'm impressed with what Stop & Shop did in a week to the Waldbaums in Southampton, NY, a Centennial still in use.

      Did you check out the Shrewsbury Acme while you were at the Tinton Falls A&P? Any indications when that store might close?

      According to a response to that question on the Acme blog, the Shrewsbury store isn't going to close. I find it difficult to believe that's the long term plan since it makes no sense to have two stores across the street from one another (and a store in Fair Haven... and Little Silver... and Lincroft) but I'm assuming nothing can be made public right now regarding those plans.

    Too bad Acme didn't want the Pompton Lakes A&P, really, considering Ortley Beach. Woulda been a triumphant return to Klugetown after the big ass fire.

    Hulk - Ahold really knows what they are doing when it comes to store conversions. They spent two weeks on the Ukrops stores they arrived in the Richmond area, and the interiors are almost barely recognizable.

    Also, we have less than two weeks to go before Acme's takeover of various A&P locations finishes. Does anyone know when they will be coming back south (Delaware) to do their changeovers? I am assuming near/at the end of the scheduled time period.

      The upcoming circulars for Superfresh only from Friday through next Monday (11/9) so those might be first to get converted. Pathmark's circular runs all of next week so those might be last.

      I got an Acme mailer today for the Grand Opening of the store at the former Branmar SuperFresh in North Wilmington (where Dan Croce got his start in the business) on Friday the 13th.

      I visited the Branmar SuperFresh last night, and they are busy cleaning and refurbishing the store. - taking all the cases and shelves apart to clean them, etc. The cashier (long-term employee) told me they are closing on the 11th and reopening the 13th. She seemed excited by the change.

      Is C&S still delivering any product to A&P? I had read somewhere that they were the biggest creditor. Kind of hard to run an ad if you aren't getting in product.

      It does seem that the ads have been running odd times to correspond with the dates of closures for change over. Also I think one of the ones I saw was small (maybe 4 pages or so). Seems like if they are within the last week (or part) it might be more sensible to just have a tiny ad with % discounts (like 10% off all canned veggies, 50% off all America's Choice items and such) - that would eliminate the issue of not being able to get a particular item or brand in to stock for the ad? Call it an "inventory reduction" sale since the store isn't technically going out of business.

    I got a circular for the Blairstown store today. I saw practically nothing of Safeway products outside of O Organics. When are they gonna cut the SuperValu umbilical cord?

      The question would probably be what do they actually have? Perhaps they avoided advertising the Safeway branded items until they are sure they will be available (as that has to be a bit harder to predict).
      After all, they were still in the process of switching to some of the Safeway stuff in the existing stores, then suddenly to have to add volume to supply 70 new stores where they aren't totally sure what sales will be week to week (even previous sales aren't totally helpful as people will check out a new store, or may have avoided it when it was A&P but will give a new brand a chance).

    Just FYI - The ads currently posted are 2 pages (or 2 sides of a page if you will) with 13 items and a coupon for $10 off $80 purchase. They run from a 2 day ad (11/6&11/7) to a full week (11/6-11/12) with every length in between. Here is a list of all stores still having ads:

      Those 16 look like the last of the Acme acquisitions. Guessing whatever they bought will be up and running by the middle or end of the week after this upcoming week.
