LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ

Location: 2497 Brunswick Avenue/Route 1, Lawrenceville, NJ

Despite reports that Acme had signed a long-term lease for this location, the company announced a few weeks ago that they are shuttering their Lawrenceville store by month's end. Acme claims the stores has not been meeting company goals for a few years now which seems odds since a decent amount of work was done to refresh the interior in 2017. The store's closing comes just as the facade is undergoing renovations. Those renovations have apparently been scaled down from the initial plan that appeared on the blog in October 2017. You can see them below.

THREE STORES CLOSING IN JUNE >>>

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA

Location: 1001 N Dupont Hwy, Dover, DE

Wow... how the mighty have fallen! One of Acme's top locations for years is officially being run out business. I had been to this Acme many times back in the 90's and the place would be packed! On a weekday afternoon! It was the busiest Acme I had ever seen. But that was a long time ago and Acme has apparently let this place go straight down the tubes. Check out the absolute scathing reviews on yelp for more details. This store will close on June 8th. To jump to the King of Prussia store post, please click here

LANSDALE, PA

Acme - Lansdale, PA

Location: 1150 Welsh Rd, Lansdale, PA

This store hasn't been covered on the blog. If anyone can get us some photos before it closes, please let me know. Pictures are in and the store will go up on the blog this Friday! You can see the Acme that existed on this site before the 90's superstore was built by clicking here. You can check out some interior photos on google.

DOVER, DELAWARE

Location: 1001 N Dupont Hwy, Dover, DE

While Acme has yet to announce this closing publicly, I have heard from multiple sources that the Dover Delaware store will close in June. It has been confirmed... Dover will be closing in June. Operations have been winding down for the past few weeks and the employees have been informed. Safeway has a store about two miles south so Albertsons will still have a presence in the area. Acme store closing:
The following store will be closing on or before February 16, 2017.

 Burlington, NJ

Locaiton: 2200 Mount Holly Road, Burlington, NJ

The Burlington Acme has taken two major hits in the past few years. The Walmart located in the same shopping center was expanded in 2014 and the former Kmart just down the road became a huge new ShopRite in 2015.

Acme store closing:
The following stores will be closing on or before April 28, 2016.
Each store's lease is coming to an end and
Acme has decided not to renew.

 Bridgeton, NJ

29 Cornwell Drive, Bridgeton, NJ

The Bridgeton Acme has some tough competition including ShopRite, Walmart and Aldi all located nearby. You can view full coverage of the Bridgeton store by clicking here.

Shrewsbury, NJ

1080 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ

The closing of Shrewsbury is somewhat of a non-event. This day was coming the minute Acme acquired the A&P Fresh across the street. It will be sad to see this classic location go but shoppers in the area now have a beautiful and much larger Acme to shop at. Below is an aerial image showing the proximity of the two stores. The new Acme will be coming to the blog this Friday. For full coverage of the Shrewsbury store, please click here

Oxford, PA

Location: 2176 Baltimore Pike, Oxford, PA

Another classic location closing is the Oxford store. While it's sad to see this one go too, it has remained open years longer than expected. This place has been rumored for closing since practically since the day Acme Style started. For full coverage of this store, please click here.

While Acme is about to lose 3 stores off its total count, it is soon gaining 2 new stores in Patterson, New York and Boonton, New Jersey.

Last Call...

CLIFTON ACME
CLOSES TODAY!

Location: 467 Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ

Time now for a final tour of the Clifton Acme. These pictures were taken on Monday. Very little merchandise remained in the store at the time. The store closes for good today.

There was still some bread in the Bakery and a small selection of produce. They aren't kidding with the "we've lowered prices!" sign. Everything is 50% off!!

Both the regular and Kosher Delis were completely shut down.

Former home to the Bucks County Coffee. The department was removed last October., a change that was made most likely before the store was slated for closure. For a look at the former café, click here.

The self-checkouts survived until the end.

As mentioned in previous Clifton posts, this store offered a wide selection of Kosher items to appeal to the local community.

The Acme at Oregon and 19th is a virtual twin of this store. You can visit that location by clicking here.

Sad to see all the signage signaling Acme's turnaround still handing in this store.

Dairy was completely shut down.

Have to say my visit here this week was pretty bizarre. Back in 2004 when the store was just weeks away from opening I would occasiotnaly stop by at night to check on the progress. On one evening that I still remember very vividly, the entire interior was completed. Shelves, fixtures, registers signage all in place. Only thing missing was products on the shelves. This past Monday the store was virtually in the same condition, although this time it was getting ready to close... for good. Comments left on the blog have indicated that a sharp increase in rent is the main reason the store is closing. A comment just in this morning claims the rent had soared to $120,000 a month.

One quick look at the former Acme in Clifton...

1006 Route 46 West, Clifton, NJ

This location opened in 1959. As of Friday, Clifton will be without an Acme for the first time in 56 years.

Below is a map showing the locations of Acmes that existed in this part of New Jersey over the years. Granted, not all stores shown here were open at the same time, some stores were replacements of other, but it does give you an idea of the presence Acme once had in this area.

The same map is below, showing how many Acmes are in this part of the state as of Friday, February 20th...
