Old School Acme Schedule!
Courtesy of John from WISL1480.com
Not sure when this "Personel Schedule" was phased out but it was used at my Acme into the 90's. I used to live or die by the this sheet of paper. Mostly die... never enough cashiers scheduled for my shifts and you could always count on one or two calling out.
Interesting information just in to Acme Style...
This type of paper schedule was around at least till early 2000's. Back in the day there was even a "purple" insert so that you could write the schedule and have a double copy by putting the purple sheet in between the copies of the schedule. I used to write the schedule that way. Around 1999 VLM (visual labor management) rolled out which basically linked the schedule with the time clock as well as automatically forecast your sales based on previous sales data as well other enhancements. Corporate management can also "dial" in to ensure that the store is in compliance with scheduling guidelines. This system is still in use today. In the beginning there was a lot of "schedule" writers that struggled with converting to VLM and some stores were still using both paper and VLM scheduling until early 2000's.

Acme "Bell Ringer Award" Clock!
Photo courtesy of Will aka B-More Retail on flickr
"Bell Ringers” was a marketing promotion from the early to mid 1980’s. It combined special weekly price reductions on selected items that were referred to in Acme Ads as “Bellringers” and part of an overall Advertising campaign “Acme Super Savings Time.”
It was also tied into the fact that all Acme Markets were given uniform Hours of Operation daily from 7 AM to 11 PM and Sunday 9AM to 6 PM.
The “Bellringer” Alarm Clock was an internal recognition award given to Acme associates for achieving various business goals tied to the ad campaign. We hope this is helpful!
Will discovered this very cool clock at an antique store in northern Baltimore County, Maryland. He posted a photo on flickr and asked if anyone knew the meaning behind "Bell Ringer Award". Ben Schumin tool a chance at passing the question along to Acme's facebook page and received a detailed explanation...

Acme Clock for Sale on Craigslist!

Well, it was for sale. The ad is no longer available on craigslist. Thankfully Will got a screen grab for us before the it was taken down, or sold... who knows. Wonder what store this one came from. The Salisbury Acme would have been the closet location to Parsonburg. I'm not sure when that store closed. If your looking to pick up a clock like this for yourself, there may still be one for sale. Click here for details.

So it looks like the Acme logo was added to clocks after they were manufactured. I had always assumed the logo was printed on the clock face. Acme certainly ordered enough of these to have them custom made. With the discoloration around the logo, it looks as though a decal was added later.

Acme Whipped Topping

Classic Acme merchandise courtesy of John from WISL1480.com

Interesting to note there is no mention of Acme on the container. The design of the label and the container are completely different. The whipped topping was probably available at other grocers, each having they're own custom label.
