Due to an overloaded schedule for the next few days, I will not be able to get this week's planned posts completed in time. New posts will be going up next week on Tuesday. February 28 and Friday, March 2.
AcmeStyle, this is perfectly alright. You have no obligation to give us anything. Enjoy your well deserved time-off from this great website, and thank you for all your hard work.
Thanks Max! I appreciate that. I do like to keep you all informed if no posts are coming so you don't get disappointed when you're not seeing anything new.
I need some help with NJ retail history. Does anyone know what grocery store the "New York Sports Club" fitness center in Colonia (Avenel) NJ was? Looks like a trademark Food Fair/Pantry Pride to me, but now I suspect A&P. And the Jo-Ann Fabrics which also anchors the plaza I think started as a Woolworth, then was a "The Cloth World" fabric store which was bought by Jo-Ann in the late 80's. Also, what happened to the Woolco in Asbury Park from 1966? I saw some photos of it from when it was new but have no idea where it actually was. Could it have been a conversion from a downtown Woolworth? I saw a True Value Hardware store in Asbury Park which had similar lighting to the Woolco in the pictures. There doesn't seem to be any land in Asbury Park for shopping centers. I thought the town has been too high crime for most retail for a LONG time too. Or could it have actually been what is now Wal-Mart/Walmart (or maybe Home Depot) in Neptune?
