Acme Style to return NEXT Friday!

Sorry everyone, the return of Acme Style will be delayed by a week. Please check back next Friday for a brand-new store post!

Acme is officially BETTER!

After nearly 2 years of getting better, it appears Acme is ready to declare itself... BETTER! The new tagline seen above debuted on the cover of Acme's online Big Book last Thursday. I'm assuming this new message will be rolled out to stores as the "Summer is better at Acme" signage comes. The "getting better" message was a little tired at this point. Acme also needed to come up with something new that would lend itself well to the A&P and Pathmark takeovers that will be happening in November. This new tagline will certainly do the trick!

ACME'S REMODELING FRENZY! 

So this news is a little old but in case you missed it... here goes. Acme announced this summer that it was planning remodels for a bunch of their stores. You may have seen it mentioned in the comments sections that Doylestown has just been fully remodeled. Interesting since that store had the deluxe Premium Fresh and Healthy remodel and wasn't in desperate need of refreshing. Chester Springs is scheduled for a remodel by year's end. Again this is a little shocking since it's one of Acme newest stores in operation today. It will be interesting to see if the remodel there will be similar to Devon since both stores previously had the Alberstons Marketplace decor. Anyone near that location to check it out for us? I will be making a trip there once I know the remodel is complete. Doylestown will also be covered soon with pictures of the remodel AND pictures of the previous decor package.

Newtown, PA
Pike Creek, Wilmington
Naamans Road, Wilmington

These remodels are on top of 16 that were reportedly done in the past year. I only know of about 5 remodels and they've all been covered on the blog. If anyone knows of the others, please let us know!

Here comes another NEW Acme!

Location: 912 West Bay Ave, Barnegat, NJ

According to officials in Barnegat, New Jersey, Acme is officially moving into the abandoned Genuardi's! The breaking news was reported last night on AsburyParkPress,com. Thanks to Dave W. for letting us know. Acme will not confirm the news at this time but the store is expected to open in early 2016. For more details, please click here.

Sea Isle City Acme to be replaced?

Location: 6212 Landis Ave, Sea Isle City, NJ

An anonymous comment came in this morning saying the Sea Isle City Acme will be torn down this fall and replaced with a larger store. After a quick Google search, I did find an article on SeaIsleCityGuide.com that mentions the plans to replace this classic store. Here's an excerpt...

It looks like the Sea Isle Acme which may the smallest supermarket in the world, is going to be torn down after the summer of 2015 and replaced with a new larger Acme. Several Acme employees have said that the new store will run the full length of the shopping center and be raise several feet in order to comply with building codes and avoid flooding. The others stores in the shopping center may be relocated to the side of the current parking lot behind the CVS.

No official word to be found at this time but I'll keep my eyes pealed for some. I would think Acme would be advertising the news like they did with the Beach Haven store last summer if this plan was a sure thing. To view coverage of one of Acme's oldest stores, please click here.

A&P FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY!

USAToday is reporting that 25 stores are expected to close immediately.

And this from the NYPost.com...

The parent, with its stores stretched across the Northeast, has already struck preliminary agreements to sell or shutter about half of its nearly 300 locations, insiders said. Prospective acquirers aren’t likely to operate many locations under their previous banners, they said. 

“It’s feeding frenzy, A&P is being picked apart like a corpse,” according to one industry insider. “The company you and your parents knew will be gone.” 

As reported by The Post, the Acme Store group of Philadelphia, owned by the parent of Albertsons and Safeway, was in talks last week to acquire nearly 80 of the A&P parent’s locations. 

Dutch grocery giant Ahold, owner of Stop & Shop, also has been eyeing stores.
