Qualtiy Built in Tuckerton!

Photos courtesy of Dan Asnis

Location: 425 Route 9, Tuckerton, New Jersey

The Tuckerton Acme was remodeled over the winter of last year with the grand reopening being held on April 22, 2016. The above graphic gave a preview of the planned improvements. When I announced the remodel on the blog, I doubted the décor would be getting changed out during the remodel. This store has undergone previous "remodels", and even an expansion, while always retaining the same décor. Last summer it became evident that the Jersey Shore stores were on the fast-track for Quality Built.

The super-deluxe Industrial Circus décor, along with the lighting, was completely trashed to make way for the Quality Built décor. Interesting to see the remodeled section in the photo above looking more like the "before" with it's old school florescent lighting and minimal décor. The "less is more" approach is becoming a major trend. Giant/Carlisle recently rolled out a new décor package and if it was anymore minimal there would simply be nothing on the walls!

I've actually always thought the "grand aisle" in Tuckerton was among the nicest I'd ever seen. Of course I've always been a big fan of the Industrial Circus décor and I know a lot people are not.

The Bakery has been reconfigured with seating added to the front of the store.

Too bad they didn't use the same lighting they put into the converted stores. It at least has a little more visual interest than plain ol' fluorescent tubes.

No changes to the tile behind the Deli of the flooring.

I believe the Pharmacy was reconfigured. I don't have a "before" picture but I don't think the department was rounded like it is now.

Customer Service was most definitely reconfigured. No signage for it on the wall, however. Seems strange since there is some room there. Just a sign hanging from the ceiling.

Thanks to Dan for our first look at Quality Built in Tuckerton!

  1. Now that Quality Built seems well on its way to spreading to all stores, I'm appreciating the Industrial Circus decor even more. Quality Built is perfectly adequate... and perfectly plain. It gets the job done, and nothing more.

I wish the remodel would have addressed the worst part of this store- that hideous exterior. The old section between the two newer "towers" has to go. The Acme logo should be above the large vestibule window on the left.

    1. I think the Industrial Circus looks very gaudy and exaggerated. The simple scheme and appropriate colors which are overall warmer and brighter than the dark brown that dominates the previous decor bring a more simple and classic feel to the stores. You don't want the decor too plain, but there is a point at which too much is simply too much.

Industrial Circus has not aged well. It may have been more popular when stores were being designed by different people but now it just looks gaudy.

I think the individual departments could have been designed better to give each more of its' own identity, but not something like I have seen (I believe it was Stop and Shop) where every department is giving you the impression like they are a separate store within the larger store. You need some sort of coherent aspect of the designs.

Now if I could only get Target to take down those cheesy oversized photos of fake-looking people that hang on the walls.

  2. I personally thought it looked better before the remodel. It had more character. Now it just looks boring and generic. Maybe its just me :/

    1. No it's not just you. The look is plain and generic. In some stores it's an improvement, like Pathmarks that never got remodeled. Yet in most stores the look is a step back when it comes to character.

  3. Acme Markets Quality Built Decor Package in my opinion is one of the most beautiful decor schemes color wise and graphic wise. The warm earth tone colors with bold graphics on the wall as well black shelvingar and this is your Acme signs are anything but generic and bland in my book. I love the Quality Built Decor Pkgs! The Patterson NY store is a palace!

    1. Really looks great inside the 2nd and Girard store (ex Superfresh) They just finished the remodel with a Frosted Mug, Starbucks etc. (Oh and lots of open registers for once)

  4. The Acme Sav-on Bristol Road Bensalem still has the Albertsons Marketplace/Santa Fe decor package.
