New Lighting in Lincroft!

Location: 616 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ

BEFORE...

A few weeks ago  I stopped in the Lincroft store to specifically check on the lighting situation. Had a feeling they had brightened the place up like they've been doing with the converted A&P fresh locations and sure enough they have!
AFTER...

Spot lights, hood lights, drum lights and lattice all removed in favor of these new lights... the likes of which haven't been seen before on the blog. The bulbs are typical fluorescent tubes but each fixture has two frosted panels that hang down and diffuse the light. I haven't seen anything like it before. It was hard to capture the details in these photos but they're very sharp looking in person.

Lights have been changed around the whole perimeter, in frozen foods and in all aisles that were previously lit with the hood lamps.

Self-checkouts still going strong here. Not sure why they're surviving in some stores and have been long removed in others. With all the work that was done to the ceiling here, you'd think they would have pulled the self-checkouts too.

  1. They might be LED tubes which are becoming more popular. I know the Shoprite in Lyndhurst and the Foodtown in North Haledon switched to the LED tubes but were able to keep the same fixtures...Regardless these new lights are much more energy efficient then the old fixtures.

    1. Sounds like what Giant retrofitted in a number of stores. If it is I'm not crazy about them. Way too dark, IMO.

  2. Maybe it depends on how many shelfs each store shells as to if they keep shelf checkouts? ;)

    Or, maybe nothing at all.

  3. @GSP: They sure look like LED's, and nice ones at that. However, other stores such as Paoli and the A&P-bough stores had their lighting replaced at around the same time, and they got your typical fluorescent lights.
@ACME Style: do you know a timeframe as to when they may have been installed? I know SuperValu started using LED's towards the end of the time that they owned ACME, which switched back over to fluorescent once Albertsons took over. Also, did the new lights over the frozen aisle match the ones over the rest of the aisles more or less? If they do, then the rest of the new lights are probably fluorescent as well.
General note: It seems a lot of grocery stores switched to LED's (Giant, Grocery Outlet, SuperValu), so either way I wouldn't be surprised. What can I say, I'm a light geek! :P

    1. The lights went in sometime in the last 6 months. I can't remember exactly the last time I was here but I know I was in this store several times last summer. You can tell a difference between the new lights over the frozen food aisles compared to the ones that were already above the grocery aisles. The pictures didn't really capture it but you can see a difference in person.

  4. Glad they removed that hanging latticework from the ceiling. It looked really bad. Just having the exposed ceiling looks a whole lot better.

  5. With all due respect to the late 1990s, the openness as a result of the lattice removal is unbelievable in a previously clusterphobia-inducing store.
