Acme loves a good winter storm! In recent years they've built a reputation in the Philly area for keeping stores open during the harshest of winter conditions, even when the power goes out! Now they're alerting customers well ahead of time to encourage customers to spend... spend... spend. This photo was taken by Tom earlier in the week at the Saddle Brook store. When I stopped in my Acme yesterday, they were actually announcing a detailed forecast for the impending blizzard throughout the store. The storm is winding up to be worse in North Jersey than originally forecast so those who have stocked up, like myself, are ready for whatever comes. Happy Blizzard everyone!
Sounds like my local news channel that overhypes winter storms... and of course down here a winter storm is a dusting to half a foot of snow at most :P (though ice is definitely a major issue). Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI was in the Milltown Acme yesterday afternoon around 2:30 their was an announcement over the loud speak that their daily produce shipment was delayed until 8:30 pm (When the snow storm had already started)
ReplyDeleteIt hit Cape May County pretty badly. I hope no Acmes were flooded. I know the Sea Isle City one used to flood pretty frequently, but it's being rebuilt this off-season. Does anyone have any news?
ReplyDeleteThe Acme, along with all of the stores to the left of it, were leveled in the fall. The lat time I saw it they were doing some rough foundation work.
DeleteDoes anyone know about the flooding status of the Ventnor, Ocean City, or Wildwood Acmes? Any I'm not thinking of?
ReplyDeleteFox 29 News just did a segment from the Wildwood ACME. Looks like it survived without flooding.
ReplyDeleteThe Sea Isle City store has yet to be rebuilt. There have been some construction delays so it might not open until late summer at this point. As for Wildwood, I'm sure the Acme is fine. I wondered about North Wildwood since that area got hit pretty bad with flood waters from the bay behind it. However Acme said that all NJ stores were open as of yesterday so if it flooded, they cleaned up quickly.
ReplyDeleteAcme seemed to get a few comments from people on their site(s) about keeping stores open during the storm (though not as many as ShopRite did).
ReplyDeleteOne of which was the West NY location, which seemed even more strange since there are many people (customers and likely employees?) that could get there easily with the way it's built into a residential area.
It's surprising that store was closed with so many people within walking distance. Thing is... the employees wouldn't be living anywhere near the store. The condos and townhouses in the area are absurdly expensive.
