WELCOME TO A NEW ERA OF
ACME STYLE!
After being shuttered 7 1/2 years ago, Acme Style has surprisingly reopened for business! (And let me tell you, no one is more surprised than me!)
Lots of fun posts are headed your way as I have continued to photograph stores for years now. I also have carts full of photos which never made it up on the blog the first time around. Also on the way are updates to previously covered stores as ACME is currently in the midst of some of its most aggressive remodeling in decades. While the chain appears to be thriving, at least more so than it has during much of its history, store closings still occasionally happen. You can now rely, once again, on Acme Style to preserve those stores forevermore.
I will share with you that going forward in this new era of the blog, I will be posting less frequently than many of you became accustomed to in Acme Style's heyday. Back then I ran this blog like it was my job and I loved it. These days it will be relegated to more of a side project. I plan to do at least 2 big store posts a month and other shorter posts focusing on updates and former locations. The big posts will go up on Fridays with the other posts going up on Tuesdays. If you don't see a post by 7am on those days, there won't be one coming. I just like to mention this so you don't waste time checking back for new content when it is not coming. Posts this time around will be focused more on presenting photos and less on my chit chatty commentary. This will help keep things moving along.
Also note, Acme Style will continue on with its out-of-date vintage blog look. I don't dare reformat at this point and while many of you out there might be pained by the dated look (and I completely understand), no remodeling plans are in the works at this time.
Check back tomorrow for the very first post of the new era. A bit of a news break of a shocking twist for an extremely successful store. A blast from the past post will go up on Wednesday and then this Friday, coverage of one of the most spectacular remodels ever seen in the history of Acme Markets!

ReplyDeleteWelcome back Acme Style! I wasn't informed that you returned as I have stopped checking Blogger a long time ago. I miss checking out this blog and sending you photos. I hope the Acme in Swedesboro finally makes it to the blog this time around. Can't wait for your new posts.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And yes... Swedesboro is on the list!
DeleteAcme Style, thanks so much for all of your hard work over the years. I am really looking forward to your future posts. (By the way, I have been a commenter on your blog in the past, although I went under the name of "Max".)
ReplyDeleteAlthough Zachary has already profiled these stores on his outstanding Market Report Blog, below is a list of supermarkets which you may enjoy visiting (regardless of whether you choose to profile any of them as a bonus store):
• ShopRite of Netcong (NJ): This is probably the most old-fashioned ShopRite still standing. If you want to visit, I suggest you do so as soon as possible because there are apparently plans to build an outparcel in the (soon-to-be enlarged) parking lot, and there is a search for tenants. I presume that once tenants have been found, the long-delayed expansion on the Netcong ShopRite will commence.
• ShopRite of Chatham (NJ) - This store is a long-time favorite of mine and is located in an absolutely beautiful shopping center.
• ShopRite of Millburn (NJ): This store looks like a Centennial but was never an A&P. It is a longtime ShopRite that received a renovation not too long ago.
• ShopRite of Springfield (NJ): Like the Millburn store, the Springfield location is a longtime ShopRite that originally opened as part of another chain. In Springfield's case, it was intended to be a Safeway but actually opened as a Finast due to the sale of Safeway's New York Division to Finast during the construction of the store.
ShopRite of Lincoln Park (NJ): A lot of people like this supermarket because it is stuck in an 80s-time warp. Although I love the 80s signage throughout the store, I actually don't particularly care for the Lincoln Park ShopRite because of its exposed ceiling (which I find ugly) and because of how dark everything is inside the store.
• Morristown (NJ) Whole Foods: You already gave excellent coverage of this store back when it was an A&P. Although I miss the A&P, the Whole Foods is a worthy replacement. And in my opinion, Whole Foods did the best job I have ever seen "modernizing" a Centennial while still keeping its classic exterior appearance.
• Goldens Bridge (NY) Acme: This obviously wouldn't be a bonus store if you choose to profile it, but I am thrilled that Acme chose to continue to operate this beautiful former-Centennial A&P location.
Thanks! Some good stuff on your list. I was actually a regular shopper at the Netcong ShopRite a few years back when I was staying out that way. Never photographed it but it is bonus store worthy!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!! So pleased to hear that you are restarting the blog. Looking forward to future posts!
ReplyDeleteThank you William!
DeleteWelcome back!! I am beyond thrilled that you're back online, I missed this blog and thought about it regularly over the last several years!
ReplyDeleteThank you PlazaACME!!
DeleteWOW! So great to have you back posting. Just as Acme begins to roll out this "Quality Built Plus" Decor, we may be on the precipice of another great era of Acme. Looking forward to reading your posts, (and sharing some pictures!)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I am one to believe ACME is already in the midst of a great new era, possibly one of their best ever. Perfect? No. But it is so refreshing seeing ACME THIS focused on being ACME! They still can't seem to compete successfully with ShopRite which is getting stranger by the day as ShopRite's prices are skyrocketing and ACME consistently having better sales/digital coupons. Oh well, ACME is all in more so than they have been in a couple of decades now!
