This. Is. Awesome.

Acme has really stepped up their flower displays with orchids and roses.

The Quality Built décor is looking fantastic here!

No more crappy peal and stick letters on the walls! Hard to notice here but you can see the letters are 3D forms mounted to the walls above the other departments.

A little odd that this area wasn't branded the "Foods To Go" department.

Corner Deli looking much better with a big "ACME"! Still wish they would put the updated oval logo here.

Possibly new meat cases here. Not sure what's going on with the wall behind them. It is tile? Is it painted?

I think this is an Acme first! Aisle markers facing parallel to the aisles, the same way A&P hung their aisle signs.

Yeah it is!

I do wish Acme would brand their Bakeries. "Fresh Baked" is so painfully generic.

Supermarket Fan: Is there a retro logo wall in this store?

Over the years, I've often complained about Acme's lack of custom designed register lights and its dreadfully boring block-letter logo. Well no more! I still can't believe how far Acme has come since this blog launched in 2009.

Thanks Supermarket Fan for the great pictures!

  1. Acme Style - no problem! To answer a few of your questions:
I don't think the meat cases are new, maybe just repainted. But I'm not exactly a refrigeration case expert myself!
All the walls are just painted, none have tile. I believe the only tile on the walls (that is, behind the service departments) is left over from A&P.
There is no logo wall! But it looks like they're still in the process of renovation, so there might be one coming (the front wall is, unfortunately, even more boring in person than it looks in the pictures).
In any event, this looks about 100x better than A&P, and Acme is MUCH better overall.

I used to live near this store when it was an A&P, and my family shopped here (high prices and always expired products), at the "little A&P" in Union, which is now Seabra (high prices and always expired products, plus the added benefit of a tiny, cramped store), or at Acme on Magie Ave (tiny store but it had everything we needed most of the time). It's nice to see Acme coming back to the area with a really attractive store.

It's great to see Acme renovating its stores at such a fast pace but I'm wondering what will happen to some of the A&P-owned stores that were older to begin with, especially some of the Pathmarks. We'll find out!

    1. Re-reading this now... to clarify, I mean to say the "little A&P" had high prices and expired products, not Seabra, which I really like.

  2. I've been documenting similar changes at the Wall store, which is being renovated right now. The walls are being repainted and redecorated, cases are being replaced (some frozen cases, smaller ones in produce like cheese and salad bar) and something is being added in the front corner. I imagine the registers and flooring will also be replaced. Not a top to bottom renovation but the company is turning it into a nice store.

  3. Some remarks:
    - I see the "Fresh Juice" sign is hanging even though they don't do fresh squeezed at the store. It's just over the Odwalla/Naked/POM juices.
    - They still have Albertsons-style pricetags instead of Safeway style ones.
    - They kept the Boar's Head program! I would think that it would be the first thing to go as soon as they could get out of it.

    1. Didn't Acme say that the Boar's Head program was going to be dealt with on a case by case basis in the stores that they acquired with it?

Which if I'm not mistaken were all A&Ps because Pathmark was already doing Dietz and Watson and they didn't need to change?

    2. They'd be wise to keep Boars Head. That brand makes me a customer and I know a lot of people are the same way.

  4. I really wish they would've put up the arrow signs like they did in Devon

    1. That package appears to be one and done, unfortunately.

  5. I'm surprised parallel aisle signs haven't caught on as a universal thing by now. Pathmark was doing it for years and ShopRite does it on a case by case basis (the Passaic store has them at least).

    1. The ShopRite in Cinnaminson puts them not parallel with the aisle, but perpendicular...hanging over the shelves. So, you look at a sign, and only one side pertains to the aisle it's hanging over. It's maddening, and one of the dumbest things I've ever seen in a supermarket.
