Acme made it official on November 19th that it was acquiring the Boonton A&P, just a day before the store closed. Unlike the rest of the A&P fleet that Acme purchased, this store was not in for a quick conversion. Still has another 2 months before it opens. No confirmation yet but I assume the interior is being remodeled to the Quality Built décor package. What else could be taking so long?

Dan has been keeping a close eye on this place so I'll be posting updated pictures as he gets them.

  1. What condition was the store in before closing? Maybe they are taking their time with this one since they are not required to have it open in three days. Any lost marketshare is already done and over with. They will probably have to impress with this store.

    2. As I mentioned in the post, Acme announced it was acquiring the store the day before it closed. The inside was left completely intact. You can see some interior shots on Dan's flickr photostream...

  2. The ACME lettering and "Pharmacy" signs went up on the front of the building today (which now has new tan vinyl siding) and the big backlit rectangular sign on the side has been replaced with a red-on-white "ACME" transparency.

The lettering also went up on the north-facing side of the roadside sign a couple of days ago (nothing yet on the south-facing side), but still over the dark green background so it makes for poor contrast.

Also, the lettering on the store is rather low in the arch, along the old "Markets" baseline, while the roadside sign has it high I the arch neat where "A&P" was. The inconsistency drives me nuts.

    2. The store looks great. Hopefully they get to repainting the rest of the faded out trim work out front!

  3. I am looking forward to this store opening. I used to stop at the A&P on my way home for work. Now I have to go out of my way to stop at a food store. I need to find summer work and am considering applying here. I swore I would never work in another supermarket after doing so for almost 10 years. Acme was one of the better stores I worked for. I was at the Rockaway location. It was painful to watch that store die a slow death.
