Hello, I always enjoy checking out this website. I was wondering if anybody had any pics of the former stroudsburg acme. I grew up around there as a kid, and I remember it closing around 1994 with the major northeast pa acme closings. I heard it opened in the late 50's but I can't find much other history on it.
Today Safeway announced that it is hiring 2,000 summer job positions in the Eastern Division. This is a much higher number than previously in the past years. The struggling Shaw's division suffered another casualty today as the Biddeford, Maine store is closing in about a month. For what it's worth, press inquiries are being directed to Safeway in California. http://www.pressherald.com/2015/06/03/shaws-to-close-supermarket-in-biddeford/
I know I mentioned this last month, but I figured you may be interested... Another store recently opened last month: the Wallington, NJ ShopRite. It's a fantastic store, and the decor kinda reminds me of both the Theme Park/Grocery Palace decor and the Devon version of the Quality Built decor. No need for you to get photos, because I've gotten plenty already (I live practically next door to it!). Just e-mail me if you're interested. Of course, I'll understand if you're too busy. Just thought you'd be interested. It's definatley worth a Bonus Store post.
I believe that this was always a busy store, but they built a brand new shop rite across the street.

This store was a long time Norkus food town. They were supposedly close to closing the store before Norkus sold out to Stop and Shop. Stop and Shop remodeled the store, but I guess it only lasted a few years. Same old story, Wegmans and Shoprite.

If you're interested in supermarkets in the NJ area, there are two books you have to read:
-A Symphony of Soloists: The Story of Wakefern and ShopRite by Jeffrey L. Rodengen -Elephants in my Backyard: Alex Aidekman's Own Story of Founding the Pathmark Supermarket Powerhouse by Lynne S. Dumas
Both are very interesting, and both are worth a read.
Today (June 17), Albertsons/Safeway opened a new store under the United Division in Brownwood, Texas (a small town). They have a bit on the grand opening on some local news. Albertsons gave United a lot of leeway in doing its own thing (however, they were one of the first to offer O Organics/Open Nature), as a result, the store's décor is completely unique, with hints of Quality Built AND PF&H.
Was the Lifestyle décor used all the way until Al's bought Safeway? Just thinking that its weird seeing some old Genuardi's stores with that look being redone already if they were still opening new stores with that look. Can't say I'm sad to see it go, though. I like both Quality built and PF&H much more.
The last brand new Genuardi's opened way back in 2004, the chain's last big growth surge was in 2000, and only a small number of Genuardi's got the lifestyle treatment. What (used to be) Genuardi's has been redone? The two in Delaware that are Safeway now?
Has anyone noticed that ACME has had the same logo for the last 20 years?

Shaw's probably suffered worse than Acme did. Either way, glad it's just one.
