Wow, you did cover just about every store in New Jersey. Impressive. Also impressive is the fact that there are a lot less stores in Pennsylvania than New Jersey, which I always imagined to be an Acme stronghold.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised to see all of that too! The A&P acquisition was a huge boost to Acme's presence in New Jersey. I'll be getting the remaining New Jersey stores up on the blog by this summer.

ReplyDeleteYes. Doylestowm continues to be one of the most requested stores. I will be heading back into PA this spring to cover more stores there. Need to wait for daylight savings to kick in again so I can photograph as many stores as possible in a single trip to PA. Doylestown will be a top priority,

DeleteIt really makes me wonder why they bother with 4 stores in Connecticut.
ReplyDeleteSince those were part of the A&P purchases that was just about all that was available, as A&P had pulled out of most of CT before their final closing.
DeleteAt that point, it seemed that perhaps they were thinking about using those few stores to work their way back into the state (having left by closing the Shaw's stores, part of the same company, several years back) and to "close the gap" between the Acme stores in NJ/NY and the Shaw's in the rest of New England besides CT, but so far no further progression.
We're all speculating, of course, but am I the only one who thinks that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing at Acme (and Safeway at large)?
DeleteWhy would you take over stores with an obvious ethnic clientele, then decimate the product selection?
Why take over stores in close proximity to existing or upcoming ShopRite stores? Time has proven that they're not going to be beaten, so why try?
I wonder why the Swedesboro Acme isn't on the list yet. I hope it will get covered by the end of the year.

DeleteI still can't believe how few Acme stores are in Maryland-- I could've sworn there were at least 30 or so.
ReplyDeleteThe address for the Richboro PA store should be 800 2nd Street Pike. I know it sounds weird, the word Pike should be at the end. The road is known as Huntingdon Pike in Montgomery County before becoming Second Street Pike in Bucks County.
