  1. Heard something the other day about the Wayne ShopRite being replaced. They want to be part of the reconstruction project going on in Wayne Hills Mall, and the township has said they want a big box store to replace the inner mall.

Don't understand the logic, especially considering how much of a nightmare parking is going to be, but Wayne is Inserra territory and anyone who knows the Inserra business model knows that they don't pass up opportunities (examples being shutting down Hasbrouck Heights and Eighth Street and replacing them with the Lodi and Wallington stores).

Then again, Inserra's Fair Lawn store has an underground parking lot (kind of a necessity considering where they built the store) so I would imagine that would alleviate any parking concerns.

    1. I read that too and was wondering what that was all about- except the article I read didn't say anything about the ShopRite store relocating (I put two and two together and arrived at that conclusion on my own). That Wayne store doesn't seem to be that old, just in need of a renovation. It's already huge! But I suppose it is kinda far from the busy section of Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne? Relocating would put it very close to a very big Stop & Shop... not that ShopRite is probably worried.

    2. The Wayne store is over 20 years old now. I just imagine Inserra is getting restless there.

Where that store is is just getting into the busy section of Hamburg Turnpike, because you have the traffic nightmare that's the stretch between Hinchman and Valley.

I'm also assuming part of the reason Inserra wants that spot is to compete more directly with the Stop & Shop in Preakness.

  2. I just read an article saying that The Food Emporium is opening in Plainsboro, NJ, in the former SuperFresh. I think that's the farthest from NYC Key Food has ever gone in New Jersey, so I have to wonder how it's going to do. On the other hand, I don't think there's all that much competition around.

  3. So I got my first chance to scope out the new ShopRite liquor store the Cuellars opened in Clifton.

It's a very big store (for a liquor store, that is). Laid out well, has more than enough stuff between beer, wines, spirits, and snack foods. They have a gift shop/frozen food section where Pathmark had its bakery and the cold cases run along the wall where the meat department was last.

Plenty of Pathmark reminders left though. All of the cart returns are still outside, as is the salvage trailer Pathmark left. They painted the blue metal cladding red to keep with the ShopRite color scheme but the vacant half of the store looks exactly like it did after they sold off all the equipment and they don't seem to be in any sort of rush to fill it.

  6. ACME PATTERSON GRAND OPENING DELAYED!
Confirmed from several sources Acme is only hiring part time employees including those former A&P employees who were laid off when the A&P closed last November.
ACME did NOT get nearly enough employees to operate the store so the opening is delayed indefinitely at this point. Acme now hiring signs have been placed all around the property in Patterson.

    1. Nope. Cancelled due to the hurricane.

    2. Well, that storm is spinning away from the Tri-State now, so I think you can un-cancel it.
