  1. So, does anyone know what happened to the adjacent Best Cellars stores?

  2. I'm looking forward to the Sussex and Vernon NJ A&P's to convert this following week. I am one of the vendors that service these 2 stores and really excited what Acme will bring to these 2 stores. They are set to reopen as Acme on 10/30.

  3. Denville reopened as an Acme today. They must have installed new lights was produce was much brighter than during A&P days.

Store was crowded. Most private label products were Essential Everyday.

    1. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that due to the fact that the two companies just merged less than a year ago, and the private labels that served Safeway now have to basically serve twice as many stores, that it may be an issue of supply. Obviously, the former Safeway stores will still get first choice in store brands but total integration is still a bit off. Personally, I think they should build some milk plants for the non-West Coast divisions, as well as at least one more ice cream plant. I just found out that Safeway (Signature) Select ice cream has green tea as a flavor option.

    2. Most chains used to do all their production - canning, baking, milk, ice, ice cream, distribution, etc. But many have found it is more cost efficient to have a vendor to do the work for them.

Most of the milk around here comes from a subsidiary of Dean Foods. I personally can't tell the difference between milk brands. We also have Wawa (c-store chain) who bottles their own milk. And Costco gets their square jug milk from a dairy in Ohio.

  4. I avoid Safeway ice cream and Lucerne dairy products in favor of local brands that are available in the Pacific Northwest. I hope that when Safeway brands are extended to Acme, they can have something other than Safeway Kitchens for private label canned vegetables. Acme's Ideal label would be better for a nationwide private brand that could be used in all store banners.

    1. Brands like Lucerne milk are produced locally. They just use the common label. Thrilled to see some Safeway brands at Acme.
